Hi Although you say it is not the oil cooler pipes that are leaking I would suggest you check them thoroughly again as these symptons are indicitive of oil cooler pipes  leak the first thing you should do is to check the g/box oil level (Using the correct procedure) I would not be at all surprised if it shows a low reading if this is the case and it is indeed oil coler pipe leak then replacing and topping up level, should clear the problem .
Good luck and lets us know how you get on.

i have topped up the fluid a couple of times, so yes it is leaking, the metal pipes look fine, just the rubber ones are a bit wet.

the fluid is up to the max level, the car wont change into second at all, revs in first up to 4 or 5k then changes into third.

third, fourth, lockup all smooth, creaps fine too, just no second gear and after a bit of driving the o/d light will start flashing.

ok, car pulls away in winter mode, not sure if its 2nd or 3rd though.

drove car tonight, runs through all gears then all of a sudden o/d light on and no second gear, only covered around 2 miles max.

switch off, restart and drive off in winter mode, no o/d light and no problems.

i do need some oil cooler pipes but not the metal ones, anyone any idea how much they cost or if i can just get some hydraulic pipe??

hi there

you really need someone with an obd-2 lead to check out the car. if the o/d lights up then a error code must have been stored, you'd think so anyway.

that would give us a start. post your location and see if anyone's nearby.

hi there

you would need to be in the middle of no where! Wink i'm in glasgow, but it's not really practicable for a meet, you don't want to drive very far or you could cause more damage. you could try a local garage. they should be able to read codes from the car. most garages have a code reader. if you take a note of the code(s), then post them, we'll see if someone can figure it out.

If you are  in need of the cooler pipes i would suggest that you replace the entire ones.  It may be possible to chop off the rubber ends (not sure tho) but as the pipes are really cheap  i would recommend replacing them. Its odd that the rubber part should perish.  I have just replaced mine but it was the metal parts that rot away just below the radiator.

     See http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/coolerpipes.htm

The pipe are £18 and £ 14 each but can be a git to fit if you have the 24v. As scorpio man says see if you  can get codes read. Ford will usually do it.

   Hope this helps a bit
  Cheers Nick Wink
