should I buy a 2.3?

Having sold my facelift cossie a few months ago as we were moving house, I now find myself wanting another Scorpy. I was thinking of getting the 2.3 thinking it might be cheaper to run. Would I miss the power though & are they that much cheaper overall? Would like to hear from all you 2.3 owners. Sorry to go on a bit!

Well i don't know if the 2.3 is any cheaper than the 24V but i have had mine 11 months and it's only been on the road 5 of them, first the inlet manifold split, then oil/water mix started coming out of there, thought it was the head gasket, It turned out to be a hairline crack in the head, so this cost me just over £800 and three hard days work,That's when Ford eventually got the head in the country, took a month to get, Then i had to take the new inlet manifold back as it was only half finished, there no brass threads put in for the sensors. This easy job, lol, took nearly five weeks. Now i think the cat is gone and before all this happened i was getting 20mpg, I was starting to wonder why i wanted a Scorpio.

Hi I have owned 2.3 for nearly a year now and although i have never owned a cosworth it would have be very very special for me to swap I think the cossie although an excelent motor is more of prestige statement than anything else mpg from 2.3 is similar 28 to 32 mpg on long runs but urban look to about 18mpg not much more i can say and good luck. Regards Kenboy

Hello, I can confirm the figures quoted by Kenboy. I completed a round trip of almost 600 miles at the weekend travelling from Norfolk down to the Bristol area, and back via Birmingham in my 2.3 estate. Mainly motorway driving, but managed to get an average of 32.9 to the gallon . I generally get around 27/28 to the gallon. I use cruise control most of the time. Stephen

Hey Nick, Keep your car, You must be mad selling it. I was made redundant last October, and with the problems i've had with the car there is no way i'm selling it, even if it is only a 2.3.

Nick I agree with Richard. You'll only regret it.Have you considered putting it in storage until circumstances change? You'll only get your time wasted by muppets wanting to spaz it around then offering you £500.00 for it. DON'T DO IT. Regards Kev

Thanks for the comments guys, I was getting an average of 23mpg from my cossie, dont think I will get much more from the 2.3 then. I mostly do short runs, perhaps I had better get a diesel!!
