back axle noise

Hello fellow scorpions I have been given a 2.0 m plate scorpio for free i have just put it through a mot last week and was using daily .. but i now have a large clunking noise from the rear axle the Cv joints seem ok so i guess the diff is shot can i fit a g plate granny diff in its place ? please help!!!!! dave

Does the noise start very slowly and then increase as you speed up? If so then you probably have a dry/sticking Universal Joint at the end of one of the drive shafts. Release large end of drive shaft gaiters and apply grease (black stuff!!) to the joints,best to do all of them (4) to be sure of getting correct one,and ensure another one doesnt do the same. eddie
