Noise coming from auto gearbox

Hi all!
On my 2,9 12v I can hear a noise coming from the automatic gearbox. It sounds like...... "something spinning very fast bumping in to something".....bad explaination, I know. It sounds very loud when I put in the reverse and a little less on parking or neutral and very little on drive. What is that?

stator plates breaking away in the torque converter ? .. front pump or bearings ? etc.. etc ..< sounds terminal i'm afraid > .. recon is not tooo expensive fortunately .. STN

Does sound like the torque convertor- get it looked at before you do any more damage is my advise! john.n
