Cossie Auto "slipping"

Evening Scorpiophiles! I recently had a stainless steel exhaust fitted to my pride & joy and, because I chose a "mid-sport" system, she is a fair bit throatier than before! I am now much more aware of variations in engine RPM with regard to road speed - There appears to be a lot of "slip" when I accelerate - Engine revs seem to overshoot for a while, then vary (up & down) before gradually reducing to expected RPM (at constant road speed). I appreciate that Torque Converters have some degree of slip, but this doesn't sound right to me; She also doesn't seem to have the poke she used to have. I have just bought an OBD-2 lead from the US and I am still on a learning curve with it - Would it be of any use in analysing what's going on or is it something more fundamental (like a new Autobox!). The ATF level is correct and the fluid is still red in colour. Would appreciate any suggestions! Cheers KeithCEng

I assume you've cleaned the MAF and got it all nice and shiny? That can of course, cure all sorts of silly problems.

Thanks for that Paul B - No, I haven't cleaned the MAF since I bought the car (1996 24V Ultima Saloon with 30k on the clock) in 1998. The last Full Service was carried out by Ford in 2000, after which I decided to do my own (minimal) servicing. She has only done 23k miles since I bought her, mainly on short trips - I change the oil (Fully Synthetic) and filter every 5000 miles and recently replaced the Plugs (NGK) - Other than that, she doesn't get much TLC so this is probably her revenge! I would appreciate any "pointers" for the MAF cleaning procedure. Cheers Keith
