i know you say you dont have a remote, but all scorpio's did have this option i believe,so i would assume you may have a problem with the switch located in the boot, possibly shorting out......

the boot is designed not to open with the engine running so you can imagine the wiring for that function to be shorting as Craig points out .. there are posts somewhere about overiding the function as Taxi drivers do so that would show the precise wiring that you will be checking out .. i'll have a look for it later if someone doesn't already know and post here ........ regards ...STN

The Boot does open with the engine running on the early scorpios but it was modified on the later ones... to prevent it being opened .. but would suspect a short somewhere in the system... also water in the electrics can casue this problem.... First question have you got a battery cover fitted correctly and when did the problem first appear...... after heavy rain?

snoopy, I have got a battery cover, the boot started to open on its own about a week ago, it does not seem to change weather it is wet or dry. some times it won't open on its own and some times when you shut it it will open again stright away. it will not open when the engine is on, or when the car is locked, so there must be a short somewhere but I am not sure weather the lock itself is the place to look. Thanks for all your replys Matt

Hi Matt, this is just a quick thought but it could be a faulty relay! I’m not sure which relay it is. Its not apparent in the hand book but I’m pretty sure someone a while back stumbled over one trying to sort out the boot opening feature while the car is running. can anyone help? The only other things I can think of are the tiny micro switches on the boot lock barrel itself, which could be sticky or something, or the good old wiring on the boot hinges has become cracked inside the insulation at the ends where they trail across to the inner wings. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful but its a few more ideas for you. Regards Danny R

Hi Danny Thanks for your thoughts, think I will try and take a look at the lock. not sure what I will find. It does come in handy when you have a boot load of shopping to unload. Cheers again Matt
