2.5TD Hydraulic lifters

Hi all, I am a new owner of a 2.5 TD Estate 'N' Reg. I've sorted the electrics but last week a con rod 'popped out', and the one next to it was bent. Straightened out the bent one and put the other one back in place. The engine started and run o.k. for a few days and it happened again.I've been told that the hydraulic lifters need replacing at a cost of about £500. If I do the job myself can I do the job with engine in situ, I suppose it all depends if I can access the lifters from the top?Has anyone tackled this job. tazzer

It can be done with the engine in situ but as far as I understand the head does have to come off the replace them as there are little aligning clips incporporated with the lifters...... but others with TD engine may have more info... If you require w/shop data then email me off site for the info Cheers Snoopy
