not such a problem here, just a query, met a smashing bloke today, who will hopefully now join this site (drives a 24v ultima),anyway on the self dipping interior mirror,on mine it has 1 green LED which tells you if the mirror is on or off (LED on mine is on the right hand side of the mirror as you look at it),my question is this,on the left hand side (as you look into it),appears to be another LED,if this supposed to work,or is it just there for the left hand drive market ?,or another reason,i was asked this question today, and did not know the answer.

regards..

Hi Craig

I believe the bit on the left you are referring to isn't an LED its the sensor for the mirror, when some T.W.A.T.S behind you with their bright headlights and the light hits the sensor the mirro self dips to stop you being blinded, there is also another sensor on the rear of mirror facing the windscreen which senses whether it is night or day.

To test if mirror is working, once it is dark go to car with a torch turn on the ignition and shine the torch on this sensor and if just like magic the mirror should go darker if it is working, i know sounds childish but hey these toys have to be tested, and yes i did sit there trying to see how fast it could revert back and forth using the torch.

Hi Craig What Fitzy states is correct in priciple ,  its a light sensitive transistor actually and if you look at the front of the mirror there should also be one there.. It was explained on the page I did for gettting around the mirror failure which has since been lost after the crash.. I will resend it to Eric as you have just reminded me .... The front facing one senses when its dark outside and so enables the rearward facing one.......as it only works when its dark....!
Or is supposed to! If the fluid hasn't leaked!

Hi

Can you fit these mirrors to Scorpios without them fitted as standard? Do they just take a standard 12 volt feed from somewhere? Has anyone got one for sale?

Thanks guys.........

Thanx Paul

T.W.A.T.S was the polite word to use, if i had tried to use any other word it would have been censored even with full stops.

Cheers

It has me wondering what that acronym really stands for as it has no relation to what he really means.. but as you so eloquently state  Fitzy does have 'A way with words'

Erm.... I keep my mirror switched on all the time (green light on), and if I am driving during daylight with a low setting sun shining through the rear screen the mirror darkens!  Tongue

maxoutput123In answwer to the "question can you retro fit"

Yes really but you need to remove the old mirror Boss as I think they are different.. and take a 12v ignition feed and an earth .. Its only a 2 wire conection so should really be a simple job... the hardest part would be removing the old boss and refitting the new on....

So the shopping list should be

Boss , Electrochromatic mirror, and 12v live feed..

and a good set of nerves whilst removing the old one..
