Getting to the dash bulbs..

Hello - me again..

I have read the very interesting article on the main site.

I just want to confirm with anyone that has done the job..

1.) One of the dial switches in the C/C assembly is not illuminated. Do I have to take the whole bezel out to change it or does the knob come off the dial spindle?

2.) The bulb in the centre of the light switch is dead. I pull the knob off to expose a green fliter. Behind that is the bulb. It is tricky how does it come out I think I am going to have to use a set of minature plyers?

3.) One of the minature bulbs in the heated screen switch has blown. Is tha a new switch of can it be taken appart and a new bulb and eliment be soldered in?

4.) How much of the trip computer switch illuminates? At present only the letter 's' is lit?

5.) Both heated seat switches are not lit but from Granada experience I know how to tackle them.

6.) The clock is not illuminated - from the artcile on the main site it says the whole dash has to come out. Is this the case - I dont mind if it is - just wondered if it came out from the front when prised?

Sorry about all these questions..

Hi Phil  See your already at it with the Scorpio... Well done...

1, the CC bezel hasd to come out to do this one but be careful the wood effect can mark very easily...  Its held in in three places and clips in on the right hand(drivers side as you look at it.. I use a couple of old credit cards to slide it to release it others no doubt have other ways...

2.the light switch buld can be replaced quite easily but you need some tubing or very thin long nosed pliers to get hold of the bulb and pull it out....

3.The switches are sold as a complete unit about £8.00 each but it is possible to take them apart and replace the diodes/bulbs with care I can' t remember wjhat they are now...

4. All of the buttons on the trip switch should illuminate but again its possible to replace them if you are very careful... there was a write up on the site but it may have been lost in the crash....if I remeber correctly.
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/tripswitch.htm

5. Heated seat switches are replaceable with care as you are aware..

6. Yes the whole dash has to come out to get to the clock so if you go that route as well to replace ALL the bulbs at the same time.. Because its will be you knw whos law if you don't that another will go as soon as you put it all back...

I think I have got it all about right...  Its all on the site if you know where to look ..

Good luck

phil

can i jst add this,if you are going to take the dash out (and it is not as difficult a job as you may think or read, have done it myself),it may be wise (ok a little extra cash, but worth it),to chane ALL of the bulbs, nothing worse than replacing a few, then a week or so later, another one has gone Undecided Undecided Undecided

Glad you got the car ok Phil, It looks nice, I look forward to seeing it one day.
Also i would remove the pic from your sig as some of us were doing this a few months back and it upset some members on dial up connections.
Regards

HI Phil,

Just doing the same to my Scorpio at the moment. I agree with Craig, if you are going to take the dash out, change ALL the bulbs. I managed to get all of them from my local motor factors including the ones for the climate bezel. Total cost about £10.00. For that sort of money, it is worth changing the lot. The only bulbs I couldn't get are the ones for the light switch bezel. I will have to go to Fords for those ones. I am not sure about the bulbs in the heated window switches, but looking at the ones for the light switch bezel, it seems these are the same but mounted in a plastic base. I think you can remove them from the base and solder them into the switches. I couldn't match these bulbs anywhere.

Cheers

All fitted today - not too bad a job.. The dash is a pain to get out. The air duct for the drivers side air vent gets in the way. You just have to go for it and jiggle it out.. There is a fair amount of give in the plastic...

Oddly - the heated screen switch - which I replaced still doesnt light up ( I mean the illimination of the switch).. Do other peoples??

sounds like baz is right,if the switch was new,i would think it is faulty,as for illumination,i think the front and rear screen light up with the ignition, not the side/headlights.....

Yeah thats what half happens.. They are on all the time the ignition is on.. As is the lighting switch, memory seats and trip comp switch..plus gear selector type lighting

These kinda things piss me off as I know they are easy pickings compared to the majority of jobs...

Bloody Ford selling me a duff one. I have, however, noticed that although the switches appear to be the same.. They are not.. They have a small key on the back that is in a different position for each type...

I will have a hunt about for another..

It is possible to renew the little bulbs inside if you have the time and patience.. They are available from Maplin or similar.
