Oil cooler pipes

Over the last week the auto box in 24V started to snatch and was not as smooth as it has been. Yesterday I had a look only to find the rust worm had been at the oil cooler pipes under the radiator.  The metal pipes going back towards the gearbox were still shiny so I got some steel reinforced hydraulic flexible pipe and some stainless hose clips. I cut of the pipe and fitted the new hose with 2 new pipe clips total cost £8 plus new fluid. The job took about half an hour working from a pair of ramps. I was able to re-rout the hoses at the side of the radiator out of harms way. If Ford had routed the pipes at the side of the radiator then they would not rot.

Hi Goldwinger,

That´s good tip.
I have looked these pipes and they are looking quite Ok, in my 24V -96, but it might be better to fix these hoses before...

I got my hose from Circuit Hydraulics in Southport Tel 01704 546288 but you should be able to get it at any company that do Hydraulic hoses. When I was in the shop a guy had come in to pick up a pipe that had been mabe up for a SAAB.  The main SAAB dealer wanted £240 for the pipe Circuit made one up for £20.

On the same subject, for anyone who wants to protect their pipes before they start corroding I can highly recommend 'Very High Temperature Paint'. It comes in the form of a spray can and can be bought from halfords and suchlike.

Just rub the pipes down to get any salt/dirt off and spray on.

Me and kevin_R both did our pipes from the rads at the front and followed the metal pipes back to the gearbox.
Touch wood no problems or signs of corrosion. Costs about a fiver a can. well worth it especially as winter is approaching.
