renewing 24v 2.9 timing chains

hi fellas
started yesterday, the job description from the site is great!
i managed to make the crankshaft locking tool from some flat iron. and i also removed the vibration damper with a three legged puller. so the special tools are not always required.
does anyone have a price for the fuel rail wiring loom? mine is a bit crusty.
also my rocker gaskets are rubber and not part of the rocker cover, seem to remember hearing that the gaskets and the rocker covers were sold as a unit.
cheers

tjp
the fuel cut off loom is not the problem, it`s the fuel rail
loom i want the price for. the numbered labels have come off and while i could get by using the original loom it would be better to renew it.
thanks.

I think this only comes as part of engine loom circa £500.00 i would suggest splicing in new cables whilst you have it apart if you try a freindly auto elec specialist they will probably have correct colour coded cable you can by the metre stagger the joins solder them up and use heatshrink sleeving and you should have no probs ,it will be a lot easier to do whilst its in bits

The Microcat shows that the fuel rail loom is part of the fuel cut off loom and is not sold seperately i'm affraid, i believe the finis no for the 24v is 1003231 for build dates 02/95 - 07/98 inclusive, if you give a FMD a ring and quote that no and your reg no they should be able to give you a price.  I know they still stock the loom for the 2.3 cos i bought one two weeks ago, they still might stock the 24v loom too.

Guys,
No, the loom for the 24V is different from the DOHC engines. There, the fuel cut-off loom is a separate part and easily changed. On the 24V however it is part of the main loom and much more expensive to replace.

Tabs,
if the labels have come off I can still tell you which INJector connector is which from the colour codes. If the wire is otherwise in good condition then reuse it. However, if you think that the insulation is breaking down it would be best to replace each faulty wire. This has been done several times and you might do it yourself with patience rather than pay a speciailist to do it.

Hi Tabs, Guys and Gals,
Have just rebuilt my 97 24v 84k miles with all new chains, guides,
tensioners, hoses, gaskets, seals.and loads of £££$$$£££
The engine loom was very bad with most of all the wires cracked and damaged. I did consider repairing it and would have done so if one had not been available.
Roger at FordPartsUk managed to obtain the correct loom from his contacts in Europe. (Well Done)
Finis Code 1003231 Wire Assy. Price £319.26 + Vat less discount.
All other parts were purchases from the same source.
Good service and Good price..
If you require any further info send me a PM.
The good news is the engine runs well now with no chain noise on start up.
Regards Mike

Tabs,

No one else so far has picked up your other question about the valve cover gaskets, so I will.

My local FMD told me they came as part of the casting (very expensive) so I declined their kind offer. Since found that you can change just the gaskets, which are available from http://www.bgaqutomotive.co.uk/html/catalogue.html
for about £12 + vat each and postage.

I haven't done the job on my car yet, but hope there won't be a problem when I get around to the (likely) all day job  Grin.
