Power Steering

Hi guys, I don’t really know if this is a problem or not! Since owning my Scorpio (about a year now) I’ve been very pleased with the way it drives and everything. Up until recently I have never driven another Scorpio before. It was for the first time I experienced my fathers Scorpio which is exactly the same spec as mine, but there is definitely a difference in the steering! On my fathers the steering is nice and light and requires no effort what so ever to turn lock to lock. Mine on the other hand seems to be very heavy. Neither of our scorps have variable power steering. I’ve had different combinations of wheels and tyres on the car which makes no difference. There are no leaks, the bellows on the steering rack feel to be free from fluid leakage, all suspension, wishbones and link rods are ok. cant think what it could be? anyone got or experienced this heavy steering before? Help very much appreciated. Danny R

Hi Fredrik, compared to my fathers car it seems heavy all the time. Although their is some power assist, it's no where near as smooth and light as the other scorp. Danny R

Silly question but have you checked the fluid level ?, are the tyre pressures and size/profile of the tyre the same as your Fathers, It could be a problem with your pump, There may even be a number of different combinations of these and the above problems.

Hi Steve, yeah power steering level normal, tyre size 225 50 16 V all round. (same as me dad's), I keep thinking it could be the pump but it shows no sign of leaks, it doesn’t make any squealing noises and has no play in the drive wheel. Cheers Danny R
