I have a 2.3 scorpio ultima estate R Reg, lots of miles(218,000) with lpg conversion and auto gearbox. It has a couple of probs, like pulling away in third gear until about 10 mph and then drops to second and then its ok to drive as normal until it drops back to where 1st gear would be selected where it goes back to third.  IE, no 1st gear.

I have checked and cleaned the MAF but this did'nt seem to do a lot.

I would be very gratefull for any help with this problem but it wont be the end of the world if I cant get it sorted because it was very cheap and as long as I drive like an old Volvo driver on a Sunday its not TOO bad!!!!

P.S. I love this site. Sorted loads of silly probs allready.

Nice high mileage there,is it the original 'box?
I hate asking obvious questions, have you checked the boxes oil level?

You could do with a run connected to an OBD kit,I wouldnt be surprised if the box is ready for the man with the spanners.

You could be right, though the box was just replaced about two months ago for the same or similar problem by the previous owner

Someone has suggested a switch or sensor may have been used from the previous box though I'm not sure where this may be.

I may be just an old sceptic but are you sure they didn't change a sensor and leave the original box?. I've had similar stunts pulled on me when I was younger and more trusting.

The box was definately changed I've had this confirmed by the supplier and the garage that did the work

looks like its going to have to go to the menders, as soon as I get a second mortgage.

Might even get the spanners out myself at the weekend
and save some moneyHuh
