24V Ultima 1998: Hard to start

I have had this car now for some 10 months, but it seems to suffer from some weird problem which I hope the experts on here can help me with.
Normally if I use it every day it starts straight away, first time every time, however if I dont use the car for 3 days or longer, things are very different.
If the car is laid up for 3 days or longer when I go to start it, starter turns the engine over but it just does not want to fire, after many attempts with the occasional attempt to start, I end up with a flat battery. After charging up over night, battery back in and after many attempts I can then manage to get it going.
The car is back to normal then no trouble at all, starts first time unless I dont drive it for 3 days or more, back then to not starting.
It is almost as if something is shutting down after 72 hours and not starting up straight away again.
Has any one else had this problem or can any of the experts on here advise.
Many thanks.

hi there

does the dash flick around while it won't start? if yes, then your battery's had it. the ecu seems to shut down with a low battery voltage at start up. car will spin over as if there's no problem, but won't start.

Hi,
The dash only starts to flick around after I have tried to start the car about 10 times, when the charge in the battery is nearly exhausted.

It's a battery problem! One of the cells is on its way out! Or mfy be it flattens due to some electric malfunction!Worth checking woltage on the battery under the load and fuseboxes!

Yes this is typical of battery failure these cars must have batteries that are in tip top condition so when you buy one don,t be tempted for a middle of the road one and good luck
