Cold Starting Rattle

Hi Guys i have a very upsetting rattle on cold starting it usually occours when the silver beast (24v Cosworth) has been stood from me parking her after work (around 6pm) to the next morning (8am) when i park her at work for around 8 hours the rattle does not occour unless its a really cold day ? if i go out in the evening(9-10pm) its not usually there in the morning again unless its been a really cold night, i think it may be one of two things, either the hydraulic tappets of the timing chain tensioner as the oil light goes out as soon as she fires if not sooner (which i think rules out the big ends) is there anyway of finding out which of these faults is causing the rattle, without stripping the engine ? cheers Dean

also check you are useing the right oil at least 15/50 mobil 1 or equiv too thin an oil will allow draindown of the tensioner which is probably worn a lot quicker........

niko 111 had the same problem and useing mobil 1 15/50 has cured his problem also it would pay to service it now and it will carry you through to the spring also the hand book is not always right 5/30 has a tech bullitin out on it against it use in the cosworth be wary of useing too thin an oil this engine runs hot .
