Hi All,

I think my box is broken, sometimes takes 3 or 4 secs to go into reverse ( if the car has been standing for several days it motor boats in reverse ) it also slips when changing up. All this only happens when cold and it seem to be ok when warm. I have cleaned the maf as described on the site but it was ok. The oil level also seems to be ok.

Can someone tell me if I need to  replace the  box    ( which will have to be from a breakers is it scorpio specific or will a 2.0 Probe or later Sierra be the same. I would really like to convert to a manual, obviously the ECU would need to be reprogged but not sure if clutch pedal brackets  are there etc.

Cheers All

Sounds very like what happened to my 2.0 autobox , after 96000 miles. A Ford engineer said the slowness to slip into reverse was always a tell-tale precursor to the box going.

The guy who did the box said 96000 was very good for a Scorpio box ,usually going in his experience round about 50K (?) ...

The ATF was pretty black as well which was result of everything falling apart inside.

He worked on rebuild of the unit , saying that 'you never quite know what you'll find inside till you open it up'.

Hi,
Just had my box done Grin, first question i was asked - does it go into reverse ok Shocked!! This means it has internal wear Sad. Have you had the gearbox filters changed? Worth a try Undecided.
Good luck.
