hmmmmmmm
firstly, might be worth a second opinion, not slagging off ford, but with these  cars it's always "oh it needs a new one of them".................
secondly,if the loom cost about £105 if i remember, why not have it replaced, after all if you have spent a little time and money on the car, surely a little more will not hurt............
excuse me if i sound rude, but might be worth considering......

Before you sell it or buy a new loom have you cleaned the MAF, one of the symptons of a dirty MAF is th O/D light coming on, try cleaning this first with some Carb cleaner or brake cleaner first.   Selling her would be the last resort, a new loom isn't that dear really or you could just repair the damaged wires (if it is the loom that is), speak to Big Bear about loom repairing he's done a few over the years.  Also use the sites main index, this will guide you as to the O/D light coming on, other related symptons and fixes.

You didn't go to the main dealer in Coventry did you? They have just been fined over £4000 after trading standards did them for charging too much and for stuff they never did

They probably quoted you for a whole car loom, but fortunately the Scorpio loom comes in parts, once you find out the real problem and if it is cofirmed that you need a new loom get back to us with what wires are damaged and if Big Bear can't repair it, we can give you the correct part No for the piece of loom you require.

Good luck, keep us informed,

Hi lovely .. the dealer was right that the Cossie loom is in one piece and wrong about the price which used to be approx 700 gbp. They are unavailable now though but it can fairly easily be repaired < if it does turn out to be the loom> as the guys have said .. < some scorps do have a gearbox loom separate but not the Cossie I'm afraid > .. but the point is that the O/D light flashing is simply indicating a gearbox fault which may be simple or may be more serious ..it would help to know what the symptoms are if any ? .. and by far the easiest check is to have any fault codes read as the o/d light reports to the PCM and therefore registers a code ..it will show the problem before you get too deep .. hope that helps .... regards ....STN
ps. was it the passenger side Cat ? if so then its almost certain that the loom connector to the gearbox has been disturbed ..and could be the reason you see the o/d light ..

Hi well it first started when we had the o/s cat fitted the O/D light came on and the gears were not smooth making the car judder. But it then stopped and was fine however it was due for an mot and passed no probs but when it come back the O/D light started to come on sometimes it goes off then back on the gears dont go smoothly and the car juddered again.Ford did a check on it and said it showed an internal fault in the gearbox but could not tell me what. They said that it would have to go to a auto gearbox specialist which it did. They said it sounded like the speed sensor this was changed. But after changing that it showed another fault when checked,so the switch was changed, then it gave another code fault then the gasket was changed.I was told that it was a process of illimination. However I was getting concerned so I asked for my car to be returned because they were doing work without contacting me and checking. So I went back to ford and another bloke checked it.Although on its return from the specialists the car started cutting out in neutral which it had not done before. The bloke said that the codes said the car thought it was in a diffrent gear than it actually was and it wont start in neutral now only in park.So we were told the wiring loom was the problem and to 100 per cent check this was a correct diagnosis we would have to pay 300 then like I said previously the part would cost 1700 and labour would be on top.Therfore I thought I had no other option but to sell the car off.But I am optomistic and any more advice would be appreciated so I can keep the car Wink Cheesy
