2.5 turbo diesel - pushrods pop out

Does anyone else have the same problem I've been having - pushrods pop out of the rockers? I've changed most of the pushrods and I'm still getting this problem, maybe every 4000 miles or so a pushrod pops out. This means you've got to take the water reservoir off the engine, rocker cover off, undo the two 13mm rocker carrier bolts, put the pushrod back into the rocker and put it all back together again - sod's law saying this'll be at 3am when it's raining and you're pushed for time. Anyone else had this problem with the diesel? Forgot to mention - I've been told by a garage mechanic it's a common problem with the diesel motor, so I'm hoping someone will have some tips on this! I understand that this is quite a common problem with the 2.5TD there have been posts on here in the past but I do not know how the problem was resolved.and it may be that the cam followers are worn which is allowing the excessive play but others with the same car might know more.... HTH Snoopy

Thanks for the reply.. Yeah, I'd thought the same myself - how do you measure wear on the cam followers though without stripping the engine down? I puy new pushrods in, some were a bit worn. Maybe the next step will be to try new rockers as these are also easy to change compared with the followers (just a bit eh?). I thought maybe the heads had been off in the past and someone replaced the head gasket with a thicker one... Could be that. Come on diesel owners - have you had the same probs?

The same thing happend to me last week. i thought that the big end bearings had gone as the knocking was quite lould. when i removed the rocker cover i descovered that the second pushrod had come out of the follower. i`ve now poped it back in and everythings fine again now. i have noticed that it has now developed a slight rattle and knock at low revs. i have had a qoute for a new set of followers and pushrods which was for £180 if anyone knows where i can get them cheaper from then please let me know or if there is a cheaper solution than having to replace them.
