SPARKPLUGS PART TWO.

1997/8 Scorpio 2.9 Cosworth.
Thanks to those that replied to where to get plugs from. I already knew about that web-site and in fact got NGK Iridium IX from there.
They are the same type as in the 2.3 .
The reason why I when for them rather than platinum is they are only about £1 more each plug and they say they will last 60,000 miles and more.
(I hope they don't burn a hole in the pistons. Still they say that BKR6EIX-11 are for 2.3 & 2.9 Cosworth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
But what I relly wanted to know, is where are they in the engine.
Yes there are three H/T wires to each side of engine, but when I went to change them, I lifted one cap off and it was a long hollow rubber tube anout 6 inches or a bit less.
Then there is just a hole no plug sticking out, like I am used to on other vehicles.
So I put the end of a pencil down the hole and it full of grease. The pencil came out covered in grease.
So where are the plugs?
I been on this site to look at pictures, it shows the rubber caps to end of rubber tube but not the plugs.

Lift the black cover off, you will see 2 coil packs and 2 v short HT leads.
Pull out the ht lead, get a plug socket, ideally one with the rubber bung to grip the plug, and the plugs are at the bottom about 4-5 inches down. To remove the other 2 tace out the 2 torx that hold the coli packs in place, lift them out and the plugs are at the bottom, but all 4 are a b****r to see.

On a note about plugs, I use Motorcraft, but they are not changed for between 40-50,000 miles anyway.

The only time I have had bother with plugs in my Scorpios, was 2 years ago, leaving Billing after the all granada together, and just as I got onto the M1 the car started struggling, going between 3 and 4 cylinders. Not much fun with the van on the back, but struggled home to find for no reason, a new plug had failed, bought from my local factors, and platinum.

That is why I only use Motorcraft.

Have fun
