Over the last few weeks the radio on my 2.3 Ultima has been a bit temperamental. Every now and then it cuts out, going completely dead. It usually comes on again a few seconds later but today I went over a bump and it hasn't come on again. Seems like a loose connection somewhere. Is it likely to be the connector at the back of the radio or elsewhere? Nodge

Hi Nodge, I've seen this kind of thing on mine in the past and it seems to have been cured by cleaning the contacts on the removable button panel. Worth a try.

Switched on this morning and it was working again. I took the removable panel off anyway and gave the contacts a clean (they looked clean and bright anyway). Put the panel back and ....... it didn't work at all. Gave the panel a little prod and it came on, let go and it went off. Tried refitting the panel and found I had to help slide the little button across to firmly lock the panel in place. All seems to be ok now. Nodge

Mine does the same, especially in hot or very cold weather. It's the connection between the removable front panel and the radio body. If I press the front panel slightly the radio comes on. But it doesn't stay on (without me keeping it pressed, that is) until the interior has cooled down (in summer) or warmed up (in winter). Cleaning the contacts didn't help.

Try sliding the little release button to the right while you're pressing the panel in. Maybe it's just not located quite right. Nodge

No, the front panel clicks firmly in place. There's no doubt about that. I guess I'll have to live with it.

Upgrade to what? I have the 7000. I would like to upgrade to a 7000 with non-removable front panel, because I never remove it. That would solve the problem.
