Ultima speedo

Hi everybody, I'm new to this so please bear with me. I have a problem (non medical) in that my speedo shows me what speed I'm doing but my odometer display is not functioning correctly, sometimes no display, at other times it has spurious characters. Have tried my speedo in a friends car and it works fine. So to my question; does anyone know the part numbers for, the wiring loom that connects the speedo / the ECU that controls it. Many thanks

Try a instrument reset http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm If that does not cure it try having a look at the VSS on the nearside of the gear box and nake sure its all clean and tight There were some posts on the forum earlier this week about this very subject

If the speedo is working i would think it is fairly likely that the VSS is also working ok ,and more likely there is an actual fault with the display as snoopy said try an instrument reset ,the other possibility is dry solder joints around the rear of the instruments themselves ,i doubt if it is a wiring fault in the loom ,and would not think about changing that yet ,try the reset if that doesnt work if it was me i would be looking at instrument panel solder joints colin

Thanks to you all for the info, will try it tomorrow although my speedo works fine in every way on my mates car,. Does anyone know the part number of the Engine control unit for a 1998 2.3 manual ?, someone told me that it's not an ECU in a Ford, it's a PCM, can anyone confirm or deny please, just in case Ford Swansea try to baffle me with science. many thanks

the pcm= powertrain control module and ecu= engine control unit are both the same thing, its only that 4rds prefer to use pcm and a new one will set you back around £800. i have one for the 2.9 cosworth which i am told by 4rds is programable, so i dont know if thats any good to you. ianmc

are you saying you have removed your speedo and fitted it into your mates car ? and it is ok ? if so have you tried your mates speedo in your car and what happens ,my other question is why are you looking for an ecu or pcm ,or indeed the wiring loom for it ,do you have another problem as well as the speedo ?only i feel if you are going down the i will try swapping this then if that dont work i will try something else route ,if you are not carefull you can spend nearly what the car is worth on replacements , have you had anybody run an obd on it ,as i believe this has instrument /dash function test on it ,
