First thing to check is that your battery is actually ok. Did the dash needles go right round and then back when you switched on the ignition-first sign of a dodgy battery. As for the alarm it sounds as if you will have to reprogramme it- see elswhere on the site. As for the rad light on, have you checked your watyer and also the fan belts. john.n

You could have a dead battery, (spinning needles are a classic sign) or if you have a battery light glowing red then an alternater problem. As for the alarm going off when re-connecting, ensure all doors are shut just switch your alarm on and off and that should kill it.

put something on the push botton for the bonnet to hold it down then you can reset the alarm

Fan Belt....Fan Belt But this would also affect the power steering. Check and make sure that your fan belt is not broken or snapped, as that drives the water pump I think and the alternator. You could run the battery down and over heat the engine . But I may need to be corrected on the water pump thing! JJ

hiya mate sorry for the two posts had to many Internet Explorer windows open and yes, after recharging the battery then switching the ignition on for the first time the dash needles did spin right round then back again.....funny thing is i have used the car for 3 days since i recharged it.....and it seems to be okay....no problems starting at all, and i have had the head lights on for about and hour each day. what did seem odd is when i first put the battery on charge, from it being completly flat (not even any dash lights on)...the radiator cooling fan started to turn. after i recharged and restarted the car it stopped....just wondering if a relay or somthing coud have stuck instead of it going off when i turned the ignition off it carried on running cheers Andy

Andy, I just posted a similar problem. Last weekend I noticed that the battery was completely flat. After charging the battery and connecting it again,I noticed that both fans were running at low speed. After disconnecting the fans I noticed that there was still current drawn from the battery (4A) with the ignition off. When turning the ignition on the fans stop. The car runs fine, but as soon as the ignition is switched off, the fans start to run at low speed.
