Hi to everyone I pick up my first Scorpio at the weekend a 2.0 manual altima 16v estate. It has done 135000 miles but looks to be in fair condition. I am buying it with the following problem. The tickover is erratic and it sometimes cuts out ? also slight exhaust blow. I have seen a few comments about the Red Master key this is lost but there are Two keys with the car and the alarm remote will this cause a problem.

Welcome and happy motoring Smiley

You only need the red master when you need it. It is chipped and linked to the PATS system (Passive Anti Theft System)

If you need replacement keys cutting, that acts as the master. So if you make sure you don't need any more spare keys that should be fine. Until you come to sell it.

You can programme the remote using any of the working keys so no problems there.

If not having the red key becomes a problem you can get a replacement set of keys/locks but that itends to be expensive.

On the erratic tickover as waders suggest a service may tidy that up, equally you may have injectors that are a little gunged. Try sticking a one shot bottle of redex injector cleaner in when you get your first tank full. At 180k plus in my 16 valve I give it a shot from time to time.

I am sure you will get good advice from others and if you are still having probs check back in.

Went to pick up the car today Shocked Never seen such a worn out bashed around example before Sad Tin foil on the exhaust every panel dented or scratched headlamp broken, roof lining ripped, water pump leak. Oh well just goes to show you get what you pay for Roll Eyes trouble is people see the cheap cars and think thats what a nice example is worth.

Sounds like were probably right there!

You never know, beauty is only skin deep. Maybe with a little TLC (which she obviously wasn't getting Sad) she'll be really nice for you.

Best of luck
