Cruise Problem

Hi all, My cruise has not worked since I bought the car about 3 months ago, not 100% on what should happen so I will tell you what does and hope someone can help.
Press "on" button then "+" and light comes on on dash but does not hold speed no matter how much you press the button.
Press the "-" button the light goes out.
Press the accellerator, nothing happens.
Press brake, light goes out.
Press clutch, nothing happens.
Cable is connected to motor, if I take the top off the motor, I can turn it by hand and it springs back.

i think that is everything, and I hope somebody can help,
thanks in advance

there is a vac pipe on a switch on the brake pedal have a look see if it came off or the switch it self  Smiley
next have a look at the vac pump on the left side as you look under the bonnet behind the headlamp see if it has a pipe on i think its the black  side and none on the white side
next look at the bellows that pull the throttle cable and see if they are ok  and do you get a click under the dash by the glove box where the relay is to work it  Smiley

Thanks for the quick reply bazw, but I thought the cruise system on the scorpio was all electronic? Anyway, i can not find any pipes on either the brake pedal, or the motor, and there is no relay, or relay holder behind the glove comp, could anyone confirm the vac pipe should be on my car, 1995 ultima estate.
Thanks

hi there

there's no vac pipe to the cruise control on the scorpio. more than likely the 'stepping' motor has siezed. take the module off the car (at the headlight), separate the electronic part from the gears (4 'star'? screws). see if you can turn the gearing. this is a common problem now as it got very little use (had to replace it myself) Sad. re the relay. i think there SHOULDN'T be one unless you have traction control. other think differently, though. Undecided

ps. if it's siezed, you need to get on from a scrappy...£250+VAT rom fmd Shocked same for all engines  (not sure about 12valve, though)

Thanks scorpio_man will give that a try, is everything I mentioned above about pedal switches etc. ok, or could one of them be the problem?

hi there

the only one i see a issue with is the - one. the light should stay on with the + or - buttons. only with the = does the light go on and off as you resume the control.
