hi everyone. I have just bought a scorpio on 96 plates, the engine is very noisy, I have been informed its the old transit engine. should it be realy noisy?

It's not a transit engine but almost as agricultural It's a VM diesel as found in Rover 82=5D's and early 90's Range Rovers. It was desingned in the 70's so you can't expect the smooth running of modern diesels Bazza

thanks. I wouldnt say the engine sounds rough, it's the transit sound realy. it just seemed funny ford would build such a nice motor and plonk a engine like that in it. thanks again for putting my mind at rest.

Oui... agreed, I don't know much about the engine but I know they're quite old technology (but good, of course), and i've heard a few in my time and they are pretty loud and rough. As for whether it was an appropriate engine for the car... well, you've got the grunt of a transit with the comfort of scorp. An all-round win. Plus remember what most diesel cars were like in 94.. a lot of them were more refined but most of them afforded refinements because they were smaller. Anything big was loud. Ooh the Citroen XM. D
