Hi, and welcome! Firstly, have a read of http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/odlight.htm - loads of useful stuff there if you haven't already seen it... Sounds like cleaning the MAF would be a good place to start. Otherwise, where abouts are you? Maybe you could meet up with another member for an OBD-2 scan and some diagnostics. HTH, Dave

Gaz, Yes, this is a recognised phenomenon (phew) we identified some years ago, Read the write-up on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cattle.htm. The best trick is to avoid it using the OD button to shift out of 4th before you use the power. Re the flashing OD light, yes this indicates a problem somewhere. You have seen the list of problems that causes the light on the page that Dave mentions. The only way to be sure which it is is to have the OBD codes read and go on from there. Sometimes cleaning the MAF has solved the problem (a sooted MAF can cause an incorrect ratio error) but if you're sure you've cleaned the MAF properly with a residue-free cleaner then it won't be this. It could be reporting a problem with one of the sensors (TFT, TSS, VSS) or a lazy/stuck solenoid. If you can't find an owner with an OBD in your area, ring around local garages and ask if they can do Ford diagnostics and how much. Most independants have the gear to check for codes now. Once you get the DTC come back to us. Good luck.
