On the same subject, what size are the speakers on the front doors ? are they a standard size , can you get replacements from Halfords?

I have a feeling that they are 4" speakers, and they can be got but at a premium.

The rear speakers are (or were) about 40-something quid each from Ford. The fronts... well I think, as John says, that they are 4" but on my old Granada I managed to sneak in a pair of 5" Kenwood ones behind the original grilles. The Ford ones were also about 40 quid each at the time.

For what it's worth, I've always found www.caraudiodirect.co.uk to be a decent place for audio kit. They are also quite helpful if you have questions. Their 4" speakers start at £28 for Kenwoods all the way up to £200!

I investigated the woeful farting like sound emanating from my front drivers side speaker when playing Deep Purple ( Yep, that's how old I am ) at full tilt. After wrestling for some time with the almost impossible task of removing the door trim WITHOUT damaging the bloody thing. I discovered the speaker has a hi-frequency tweeter protruding from the centre of the main bass speaker , this had broken off , thus distorting the sound. One dab of superglue later , all was well.
