hi all,
hope someone can help.
no problem with my car this morning (ultima 2.9 v6 n reg auto).
however pulling away from work tonight their was a strong vibration felt in the steering wheel,
no further problems until i got home and parked up strong vibrations again it only seems to happen at low speed or when doing a tight manouvre,also when on full lock left or right their is a loud sucking noise.
steering feels great apart from this problem.

Couple of questions for you is your 2.9 a 12 valve or a 24valve, if a 24 you should have an electrically enhanced ZF speed sensitive steering rack and your situation may be sensor related. Have a look at

12valve may not be speed sensitive but Snoopy should be able to let us know on that one.
 
Some people have talked about something like the situation you describe happening after service work when the wheels have beem of the ground.
 
Have you had any work done in the last couple of days with wheels suspended?
 
If so this seems to settle down quite quickly.
 
Failing that check fluid levels and for leaks.
 
If nothing obvious and if it continues because it is steering you will need to get it checked over.

If you look at the Service History, you'll notice that all of the Scorpio models had revised pressure pipes between the pump and the steering rack - some of them revised several times. This is a known issue with the Scorpio that can cause steering judder at parking speeds on full lock - the incorrect diameter pressure pipe sets up a pressure fluctuation. This is fixed with the installation of the correct revised part.
 
However, you also hear sucking noises and this and wheezing as well as the judder may indicate air in the system. This needs to be checked out. Check the level of the fluid and make sure there are no leaks at the reservior end. If the fluid level is low and there are no visible leaks, get underneath and squeeze the rubber bellows on each side of the rack round the steering arm. If the outer rack seals are failing the fluid drains into the bellows and these will eventually burst - the only cure for this is to have the rack rebuilt or replaced.
