Hello!

As far as I know it's rather common fault! If i'm not mistaken there was a FORD recall or smth. like! Unfortunately the cat should be replaced or...get on with the rattle! I removed the CAT, but in Russia MOT is not a problem!!!

Best regards,

Wumpster Tongue,
You can take the cat off, remove the contents (broom handle up the hole Undecided) , put it back on and forget it 'till next MOT.
The fuel managment can cope Grin

Yes, removing cat will afect fuel eco... by positive way.  Grin  Also perFordmance  will be better.
Note: If you are not doing anything for ratlling cat, you will end a problems. The fragile matrix is ratling around and getting smaller and smaller and finaly it turns sideways or get down in the pipe and blocks the exhaust. (if i remember right there is more than one matrix inside cat..)

Modern cat lifecycle is min 150 000 up to 200 000miles, IF everything is in order and no mechanical impact.
Continues fast driving (ie. racing) will of cource reduct the lifetime.
So check everything is in order same time when replace a new cat. (so you dont lose that too)

Left unchecked it will brake up and block the exhaust. However mine has been ratteling for over a year now and is still running fine. It even past its last MOT, but only just.
