Traction and cruise control

Hi all, I have a 2.0L 1995 Scorpio Ghia with traction and cruise control, but our 1997 2.3 L Ghia does not have either. I feel very sure footed in the 2.0L at this time of year with mucky, wet, slippy and often frosty roads, even though the traction control only occassionally seems to need to kick in. I am using new Uniroyal 205 60 R15 tyres which seem to be very good in these less than perfect conditions. The cruise control would be useful to help prevent points on the licence when going through areas well known for speed checks, etc., where the car may have crept a tad over the speed limit. It also just makes cruising on a journey so effortless. I have recently acquired another 1995 2.0L Ghia for parts, and was wondering if it is possible to fit traction and cruise control from the donor 1995 2.0L to the 1997 2.3L car? Has anyone done anything like this before? Thanks, Kev.

Somebody may correct me but it is strange to have Traction Control on anything less than a 2.9 Cosworth, I'm talking of the Scorpio. All 2.3 Ultimas come with only ABS and Cruise Control no Traction All 2.9 Cossies come with the TC. but someone will come and talk some sence now because I'm probely not. JJ

Traction control is definitely on both the 1995 2.0L Ghias which I have, 1 is driving, the other is a donor car. There is a switch beside the handbrake to disable it if you wished, there is a light on the dash to show when it is in use. The accelerator comes back hard against your foot when it kicks in as it automatically backs off on the throttle. It has even kicked in before I realised the road was icy some nights. When I am using cruise control on a wet country road, the traction control sometimes switches off the cruise control if I hit a muddy patch or a large pool of water. Kev.

I stand corrected! As far as I know TC uses the ABS sensors to sence wheel spin and a similar system to the CC to back off accelaration. so you would already have a lot of things needed to do the uprade.

Looks good so far, I thought the ABS sensors must be involved, I must have a look under the dash, behnd the steering wheel and glove box on both the 2.0 and 2.3L cars to compare what is different. I should also compare relays and fuses which differ. Kev.

Thanks for the link to the pdf relating to traction control John. Hi Craig, do I understand your reply correctly, did you retrofit traction control to your scorpio? Kev.

I fitted reversing sensors too, it is brilliant, people look and wonder how you managed to park that big monster of a car so easily! Plus it saves loads of repair bills!

KD2Scorps, tsk, tsk, are you a girly ? Real men don't need reversing aids to enable perfect parking.

For a cheaper version of parking sensors I have fitted some rather large old fashioned bicycle horns - you know the type with the large rubber bulb that you squeeze (clowns often have these also) - when I get within a few inches of any obstacle I get a gentle 'toot' to let me know when to stop. I might take some pictures and put an installation process up later - They are simply stuck to my front and rear bumpers - Fantastic Mod well worth doing - also looks really cool - Well almost !
