I'm thinking of buying a second scorps(2.9 ultima). the guy told me the front screen did'nt work,so i had a good look and noticed a small 7mm stone chip in it that seems to have disturbed one of the elements!if one of the elements has been cut would this stop the whole window from heating?or am I looking at a very expensive electrical problem? darton

Hi dart, Often a stone chip can do it, however there are two zones, one either side, and people often find that they loose part of the screen. I don;t recall anybody having a major wiring problem in this area but if anybody has I am sure they will be along in a minute Either a fuse, relay, switch or screen is the likely culprit. Obviously with the shocking state of the roads, your almost bound to have some sort of crack on your screen in due course and then you just need to remember to spec a heated screen replacement. Other thing to think about is wether your insurance company include windscreen cover or make a heavy excess charge, in which case consider changing companies. Geoff

i have stone chips in my escy . The heated screen still works fine minus 3 elememts. A replacement is over £600 fitted for the scorp from a windscreen supplier. I looked at it when i hade my scorp . However.... my insurance paid up when it got smashed sum how........ All i paid was my excess Cheers Nick

Dart, As Nick said screen is pretty pricey because of the element, however when mine went, (flying bolt on the motorway) cracked across the passenger side it only cost me an excess of £75. Check your insurance, see what yours looks like. Bearing in mind the price you are talking about for the car, if thats the only drawback I would not worry to much. Its not as if the screen heater is an Mot fail. Other thing is that with Aircon you get really good demist/deice quite quickly any way. As I suspect we are all about to rediscover. Geoff
