stop driving it immediately, that happened on mine when the gearbox overheated, get it checked out it could be a blockage in the oil cooler pipes. paul

Hi Ron, Check also the level and colour of oil in the box. Oil level check instructions you found from manual or this site and colour should be red. Good luck, Mmonster

A big thank you to Nadaman, Colin W, Mmonster & Paul B, for your replies, I shall put the advice into practice and let you all know how I get on. I took the car for a journey to London from my home town of kent, and I kept the speed at a constant 50mph, and the light didnt come on, but as soon as I passed the 55+ the OD light came on. Does anyone know of a good mechanic down here in Kent, I'm in the Medway Towns. I've only just got the Scorpio, I just lost my Granada Ghia X i 89 to a write off, I had her for 9yrs, and she was a very good/reliable car, mind you I thought that had enough gadgets and lights, but this one has certainly got more . Great Website/Forum and very helpful members. Cheers Ron

Well it depends which of the medway towns you are in, but the autobox specialist in tonbridge is good. Rebuilt the box on my mums laguna a couple of years ago. Not sure of their name, but they show up on yell.com.

From Mark Philbin (off the mailing list): Quote:Hi guys, Been browsing the forum, and a guy called Ron has a flashing O/D light. It's been suggested he goes to an autobox specialist to let them look at the box. Really, he should try and get the fault codes read first, it may be a faulty solenoid (or a dirty MAF) - the problem only occurs above 50 mph, isn't this when the car goes into 4th? Anyway, there is some diagnostic work possible before an autobox specialist recommends a new box, that's for sure! Can someone post this advice please? - he's going tomorrow to get it looked at, and I'm not registered on the forum (blush!) Cheers, MarkP |

Ron, Hold off the auto "specialist" untill you ger some OBD done!! I was told I needed to part with £800+ by half a dozen "specialists" when I ended up having a £200 solenoid change!! Diagnosed with help from this site, I saved at least £600 Ask, and I'm sure someone will meet with you to get any codes from your car!!!!!! Waders. PS. I'm in Barnet J23-J24 M25, I have OBDII, I could meet you half way if you wanted

Ron, Be sure to have your man check the Fuel Cut Off Loom. These connect the sensors on the engine and are prone to failure. See http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm It's more common to cause a misfire but its best to check that too.

Hi ya All, Well I had the diaognostics test done today, and I must say it was as much use as a chocolate fireguard, It cost me £47 and the bloke gave me no error codes, no print out of any sort, he just said four errors are coming up, 1)Gearbox solenoid valve at fault. 2)Lambda sensors not switching. 3)I need a new aircon control panel. 4)Electronic heater motor regulator is faulty. S0 I wasn't too chuffed, i've only had the car 8 days, and I'm getting grief already. As it's still under warranty, I'm gonna take it back to the dealers, and see what they can do. I took it out on the A2/M2 today, and went to all different speeds from 50mph to 95mph and the light didn't come on, but what I did notice is that at the higher speed the gears sounded like they were slipping. So it don't sound too good does it . I also checked the oil like one of the members suggested, and it wasn't red red red red red red red red red red red red red red like it should be, it was a browny colour. So after the new year, it's been booked in to go back to the dealers. Fingers crossed Ron Happy New Year to you all
