I have got a binding brake on the front nearside, this leads me to the following questions

1)is it possible/adviseable to remove the piston, polish it, clear out all the rubbish from the calpier and re-fit?

2)if not are all the calipers the same?(mine is a 96 2.5td ultima)

3)if they are, where can i get one, dont want to pay fords prices really

Thanks in advance

Hi lucas, You can try what I did, extend the piston as far as possible without removing it. Using a cotton bud scoop up some (silicone) brake grease and introduce it under the rubber boot, wiping it around the piston.  Do it several times-being careful not to lose the cotton wool bit inside.
Be sure that the sliding elements of the caliper pins are clean and well greased-they can be removed for cleaning.

Strange thing this,I had similar problem with n/s front caliper AND o/s rear caliper on both a Granada and now on the scorpio??

Good advice from eddie,  could be the siezure of the caliper  guides , check that the pads are wearing evenly . If the piston is really rusty  it is possible to  salvage a  good piston from a scrappy caliper  ( must use a new rubber piston sealing  ring  though ).
