Filler cap hissing ?

Hi Guys yes its me again, when i go to fill my Cossy up and unscrew the filler cap i get a hissing noise ? i don't know if this is caused by presure or buy a vacuum ? is this normal ? i thought the tanks were supposed to be vented ? and with the MOT looming i am worried that the old girl might fail on this cheers Dean

Yep this is totally normal... most cars I've had for the last 2 or 3 years have done this. I seem to remember a post that said if your Scorp didn't hiss when you open the cap then that was time to worry......

Yes, it's perfectly normal, somewhere on this site there is an explanation for the hissing.

| John, get your ear closer to the cap, it should hiss a little as you undo it. If they don't hiss, do you tighten the caps 'till they go click? You should! waders.

This part of the page describes why it should hiss... DRIVEABILITY CONCERNS The EVAP system does not effect the operation of the vehicle. It is possible that a disconnected vacuum pipe beneath the vehicle in the Fuel Tank area could cause an unmetered leak in the Inlet system and cause poor idling. The only way in which a driver may decide that the EVAP system is not working is when there is no hiss of vacuum as the fuel cap is released after the engine has run. Mine hisses like a trapped Rattlesnake...
