Radio Problems

I have a 1995 Scorpio with a 2006R RDS radio.  I had to change the battery and afterward the radio needed the code inputed.  I have the correct code(its been checked) however after I inputed the code the radio displayed "PHONE."  The radio seems to freeze and will not do any functions.  I was told to try disconnecting the battery again, taking the fuse out, however PHONE still pops up.  Any clues what this means?

Hi there ...  I'm not sure about the word " Phone" but it would seem that a few incorrect tries at the code have locked the radio .. perhaps it has been coded by someone else ..later than the code which you think is correct ? .. other members will help soon I would think ...regards ....STN

Hi,
If you are going to take it to a dealers and they do want to charge you.
It may be cheaper to just buy another one second hand with the code.
I have seen them on ebay for a very cheap price. or you could go to a scrappy.

Never seen "phone" displayed on a Ford set but I have seen it on a Vauxhall when the set was muted when a call came in, no idea what makes it do it though.

If you post the serial number of your radio I can find for you the code that it had originally, but this won't help if it has been retrospectively changed by an auto electrical dealer.

Sorry, guys,
but I don't think that "Phone" would pop up, if something would be wrong with the code. I suspect that code entry was performed correctly, but somthing is wrong with the radio itself or with the wiring at the rear connectors. Be aware that just a simple high or low level (don't remember yet) at a certain pin of the multiplug is necessary to perform muting of the radio and force "Phone" in the display. Apparently this is the case not only for the 5000-7000 series but also for 2006.
