Recently purchased 2.9 auto running very well...until today ! After long drive (5 miles!) on start up the motor switches off..I'm thinking I should clean the MAF. Any thoughts ? Service also due...

When you say stalling after 5 mins, i presume its when the engine is warm and it stalls at junctions ect? Does it re-start ok  or do you have to hold the revs? If it is the latter you could try to turn the idle screw up a little so that the revs are +/- 50 @900 RPM.

   Hope this helps

Does it tick over evenly?
Cleaning the maf is a 2 minute job so just do it.. also clean the Idle control valve at the same time....

see how she runs.......................

Sorry guys.

2.9 V12 Auto. Problem only appears after starting up when the engine is hot. A 5 mile trip to shopping center
at the weekend, and after starting up moves a few feet and engine cuts out. Starts again and same problem.
Idles in neutral ok.
Third time lucky. Starts but idle hesitant but with foot on pedal takes off and problem gone.

Problem doesn't occour every warm start up.

Thanks

Right, You do NOT have a MAF as in the true sense of the word on the 12v. so as far as that goes its a non serviceable Item .

I would seriously consider cleaning the ICV  and the associated parts, that may be causing the problem... It does sound as though its ICV related and some of the 12v engines are very prone to it.. especially the earlier ones... also make sure ALL the little black vacum pipes are secured and have no leaks...

Oui, vacuum pipes.. Listen out for a hissing that continues for a second after the engine switches off.
