Strange Throttle Thing

Hi all.
I've had issues with a sticking accelerator cable recently, so today we had a wee look at the cable and had a greasing session. We traced the cable around the engine bay.. I had no idea how long the thing is! It's about four metres long! Anyway, we discovered that this component is sticking. Apart from sticking, it's really rusty, and i'm wondering if someone can advise as to what on Earth it is!

It's located here:
http://tinypic.com/1qfzog

And this is it:
http://tinypic.com/1qfzvo

If I can get a real name for it (apart from weird accelerator barrel thing that moves) then I might try to get a new one.

Cheers
Dave and Ben.

Right! That would make sense.. Thank you, Dave. We greased it up and it was returning to base point, so if that cures it then we'll probably grease it a lot more just for good measure.

I expect Ford used the same mechanism in mondeos and similar.. hopefully if it is kaputt then we'll be able to get a new one.

Thanks Dave.

heh heh no I think someone got there first! Damage looks nasty, think I am correct in saying it isn't the first time it has happened there either? Shame indeed.

Hopefully the sticking throttle should be sorted now - it has only done it for a few days but it ain't sommat you want to leave. Luckily it didn't stick far down, just didn't want to return completely.

Probably using it later so fingers crossed.........

....However, I did let it roll off from standing one day and after about twenty seconds with no pedals pressed I was doing over 40mph. Dongerongé!

Cheers for that, Dragon, very impressive detail there! It does have a cover.. but it's good to know we can still get them. Thanks for the part number, it might come in handy...

Does it say anything else besides the thing about the cover?
