Hi i have had a problem with my idle for a couple of weeks now. firstly the car will not idle at 850 rpm it idles at about 1000 secondly when i put the clutch in on the car the revs always go to about 1500 rpm stop there then fall off to 1000 rpm to idle. I have recently cleaned the maf and took off the throttle bodies to clean them have i killed my car?, i have also cleaned the ICV

Not saying i can give you an answer but it does help those who might be able to help, if u state what engine/spec/year the vehicle is, as you mention clutch i assume its a manual ..ok. if u dont u may miss out on that piece of info u require by the one person who knows that particular query. Ren

I also (still)have a 2L 16v that NEVER idled at 850rpm,it was allways around 950rpm. never considered it a problem. Have you checked all the intake side pipework. Not forgetting the small vacuum pipes at the rear of the inlet manifold, trace all the way to the other end checking for splits etc. If you move them about with the engine running (NO TIE OR LOOSE SLEEVES PLEASE) then the engine note may change as you open or disturb any faults, also do a thorough visual check. What about the EGR system, any problems there. Again look for leaks etc. eddie eddie
