Metric to imperial conversion

My instruments reset themselves today and my mode switch is playing up again so I'm stuck in metric units. Is there an easy way to convert from litres/100km to miles/gallon?

Hi Nodge,
not sure about the conversion but when this happened to me it turned out to be a symtom of imminent battery failure (about 6-8 weeks from 1st noticing problem)

Nodge,

this happened to us aswell, should just press "S" to switch readings.

You must press the button for at least 1 second though.

The instrument reset thing with the needles flicking over has been happening on and off ever since I bought the car - about 9 months ago. I'm aware it could indicate battery problems but I only do 4 or 5 short trips of a couple of miles each week so I've been putting it down to the battery just having a low charge.  The S button on my mode switch only works when it feels like it. I've tried holding it in for 5 secs and pressing it in combination with both the M and R buttons but no joy. If you do the diagnostic thing with the tripometer button you can check the function of the mode switches and when I did this I got no reading for the S button. I think I just need a new mode switch assembly and it's just one of the things on my long things to do list.

So are there no mathematicians out there re. the conversion to miles per gallon?

Sorry Nodge did not read carefully enough - see if this helps:

1 gallon is 4.55 litres, so divide the litres by 4.55 to get the gallons. Then divide the kilometers by 1.609 to get the miles.

Can anyone else clarify this for me?  Grin

Pressing the 'S' button should set to either mpg or L/km. If your switch is not working, take it out and clean the contacts. It is easy to do and comes appart relitively easily. However, DON'T loose the cable from it behind the dash!

Perhaps you guys could help me in an experiment. Click on www.sobjoy.com/conversions.xls  - my attempt at a converter as required by the original posting. If your browser allows download of spreadsheets and if you have Excel, you should be able to use it.

I'd be interested to know if it works for you.

Thanks sobjoy, works a treat! I don't think it's as straightforward as everyone assumed as there isnt a simple conversion factor involved. I could get from L/100km to gals/mile ok but not to miles/gal.
Thanks
