OD flashing etc. ? ECU

Hi, this is a problem that seems to be like a pregnant female dog. I  raised this item about 2weeks ago, OD light is intermitently flashing, sometimes speedo not working,  & powersteering sometimes, autogears not changing properly, i.e. sometimes not changing above 1st ,or jumping to 3rd with a clonk, & slipping clutch.  Work done so far,  VSS changed, MAF cleaned, loom checked. car is now with autobox specialist & he is having problems. OBD etc. are showing power feed is getting from VSS to ECU, but getting lost somewhere for feeds to areas, i.e. powersteering, & to gearbox.    Does anybody have any advice please!

Hi John,
If the O/D light is flashing, your car has stored DTC's (fault codes). Have you checked for codes (or has your 'box man)?

These would realy help in finding your problem.

Where are you?

Hi Waders, fault codes showing but auto man says they are not making sense, he`s been in touch with Ford . He`s finished untill Monday now so can`t get codes untill then. He`s  beginning to believe that the ECU maybe at fault.  That could mean big bucks! .  I`am in the Newcastle area

When you get the codes, post them here and others can probably give you some help Wink

John  i think i may have missed your earlier post as i cant see anything on which model you have and its year ,is it the 24v ,because if it is an early one ,i would suspect the loom as opposed to the ecu ,as in my exp allbeit ltd the ecu are pretty reliable ,and the faults are usually caused by it not recieving a signal or conversely a signal that is being sent by ecu is not being recieved ,if you have the 24 how much was stripped to check the loom ,as it requires the removal of plenum chamber etc to get to it ,i had 2 different autobox specialist tell me they had checked all this ,only for me to find loom had burnt out
hope this helps

John
a cuople of years ago i had probs with my 24v od/slipping out light flashing etc ,car went into autobox specialist had new torgue converter seals etc after this was done it started doing it all again within about 10 days next new MAF was fitted problem solved for 6 months then all started again back to same specialist they could find nothing wrong ,or rather did not know how to cure it ,so eventually went to another so called specialist who did some work both having told me wiring is fine all pin checked etc  ,they adjusted brake bands and this temporarilary cured prob ,however i ended up at a third (brialliant) guy who put in a new box and converter ,but then after a cuople of months engine broke ,on stripping it down we got to wiring loom ,it had had it all insulation broke cables shorting out etc ,in my opinion this was prob all along it was just that as they removed leads from box they were disturbing the rest of loom hence giving all sorts of duff codes and working sometimes and not others ,before you spend to much i would really recommend getting the loon checked where it rests on the block between the heads ,and around the nearside h/lamp where it goes to MAF ,if you mail me off list i will send you some pics of my cables that had alledgedly been checked as ok
