In what condition do you consider the engine? When was it last serviced? Air filter, leads, plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm can all contribute to high CO% Your hydro carbon readings are good.. If the car passed the last time within the limits and you have not done anything to the engine or you dont know when the things I have listed were replaced I suggest that you get that done. A good oil flush, filter and change could help too.. Or you could be a real cheap skate and get the garage to adjust the CO% mixture on the Air Flow Meters.. My experience of the V6 Cologne is this is is ok for small adjustments.. trying to remedy the fault this way is only hiding a possible root cause that will get worse.. Did the MOT station adjust the idle mixture in attempt to get it to pass the test? So do, some dont!

Eugene, Try what phil said. Also check things like the condition of the spark plugs, air filter, oil etc.. I know SNOOPY has a good knowledge of the 2.9 12v. maybe he can step in and help. Kind Regards Danny_R

well there is that catoclean stuff £14.99 plus postage. You bung it into about 3 gallons of petrol and drive as per normal. It suppose to make you pass your MOT. But I don't know if it really works or not.

Thanks Guys. Had full sevice done recently. Spoke to my mechanic today and he is almost certain that cat is ok due to high idle results. He is going to investigate this wednesday. Will post results of his findings. Thanks Again Eugene

One way to check is to give the car a good RUN and get the engine really hot,,, Take up to the rev limiter in a couple of the lower gears and make sure it really hot before you take it for test.....other than that do as stated check all the plugs leads etc....or try the expensive option catoclean stuff.
