How's the Temp gauge behaving ? they're usually wired in tandem from the same voltage regulator. In other cars it's easy to test and eliminate whether the the petrol gauge is faulty by earthing one of the tank float sender wires to obtain a full deflection of the gauge needle, but seeing it's a Scorpio it may be a lot more complicated. There is wiring diagrams on this site, somewhere.

the temp gauge is working fine i think it may be the petrol sending unit. as im not a mechanic im not sure who much it will cost to put right but i will try and get a quote this week. the trip works but obviously the petrol estimate is being judge by the gauge so until i fix that i dont think it has much use . cheers for your comments
