I come to you with another question, seraching for advice. I want to ask you what is the period of oil change for the gearbox (it's a 5 speed manual), and if the oil level has to do something with it's shifting smothness, because sometimes when i shift from 1st to 2nd gear it kind of needs some time to get in. Also when i want to start and put it into 1st it pushes a bit to start with the clutch fully pressed....any ideea what it might be, may it be clutch fluid as well Huh the ex owner of the car had the car maintained by someone else and he didn't know when the fluids where changed last time. Otherwise it goes smooth, no noise or vibration regardless of  gear or speed, the clutch holds tight (i've tried it on dry asphalt by making a few "burn-outs")...also i metion that i don't seem to have a TCS/button and also i got an unfixed problem with the ABS (the light is on all the time)....so what it might be ?  ......sorry for the huge post....looks like a story. (and excuse my english.... Wink )

sounds more likethe clutch  needs adjusting or the syncro cones are worn
they are the system in the box that speeds up or slows down the speed of the main and lay shafts that the gears run on so you have a smooth change
Embarassed   a garage  would tell you for sure but if you can  i would just live with it for now and wait till it gets crunchy when you change gear before going to the expence of a recon or second hand box

right octavian give us some more to work with, engine size etc. As you are talking manual we know its not a 24v, do you have the Traction switch on the console, if so you have traction control.

If you doand its not working you mention the abs light is on, is the traction light on as well, when a sensor fails this comes on.

ABS light staying on , have a look at
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/abslight.htm

You will see on the menu lots on the abs.

What mileage is the car at, I agree with Barry , it sounds like the cones but that would be dependent on mileage,

Do you find the first to second problem is worse when the box is cold?
If so then it must be a fairly common problem,I have the same. If I dont wait, and hold the gear stick in place for a second or so it jumps back out.Ok when warmed up.

Sorry for not giveing you all the data. It's a 96, 2.3 16V ghia saloon, and shows 144.000 KM, and Eddie you are right, when it's cold it shifts harder, after a few KM it goes OK, but the 1st gear problem apperas randomly and sometimes not at all.
