Jonno, I'll check my handbook for the fuses etc in a moment. As you are on-line at the mo have you checked the loom in the viciinity of the front lamps? Could there be a connector pulled apart, have you had or done any work on the car in that area?. Hopefully one of the Senior members will be around shortly meanwhile a quick check of the wiring might help. HTH. Simmo

Jonjo. My handbook says Central Fuse Box, Fuses 4 and 5 cover the dipped beam right(4) and left(5).Fuses 10 and 11 Main beam left(10) and right(11).It also says that fuse18 covers the dim/dip circuit. Relays in the central box cover the dipped beam (R3) main beam (R6) and the dim/dip circuit (R7). Hope this helps. There is a wiring diagram on the site which may help if all else fails. Go to the Home page and follow the links.

Simmo, checked fuses and all seems ok , I had the front bumper repaired recently, but I am sure I uesd the lights after this. I got the wiring diagram, and only interuption in the circuits, is relays as u have mentioned, and fuses!! checked so see if any power at light unit and no voltage with ignition and switch on , however the relays are clicking in and out when I operate the dip switch. any ideas.

Jono, getting beyond me but if you look at the circuit diagram on the site under the section on headlamp faults it all seems to hinge around the switch. I still favour the idea of a connector somewhere but hopefully someone with more knowledge will be around to advise shortly. Not much beats the guys on this site and someone is sure to have had the same fault!. Good luck. If they don't appear keep searching the technical links on the Home page as there is a wealth of inf Simmoo there.

just also noticed the washer pump is also now not working, sounds more like a connector as you said.

Jonno, You first line of attack is the UNDERSIDE of the fusebox. Common problem on the scorpio. All the connections to the fusebox are on the underside and sometimes are not clipped in properly and eventually work loose. You need to remove the coin box and trim to the lower right of the steering column to expose the underneath, you will have to get your head down by the accelerator pedal and look 'up and under. Dont panic when you see the rats nest of wiring! I dont remember which connector it is but if you give them all a firm push you may find one of them will click back into place. eddie

Scorpio man/Eddie. Can you put up the link to the wiring diagram?. I cant find it and wondered if there was a clue there as to a possible connector in the engine bay somewhere particularly as the front bumper has been repaired recently. The washer pump may be a clue as that must be under the container? again all up the front end and on the offside.

hi jonno my lights failed [front only] i found it to be the main light switch it had burnt out, also found out that the way to find out if its the switch was to turn lights on and open door and if the car doesnt chime then no power going through the switch, sometimes you can wiggle switch about and the lights come on and with door open it will chime

I had a similar problem but mine was no rear lights, on removing the headlamp switch there was a hole melted in the side and a contact burnt. Do you know if the washer pump has worked since the bumper repair ? It may not be connected to the lights problem. Paul Boulden

when I open door with switch on i get a chime, and when i put the front or rear fogs on, the switch lights come on , but not front fogs, rear ones work ok. are there any connectors at the front that could be loose, as the washer pump is also not working.

So you have twelve volts coming into the fuse box and through the fuse. What about coming FROM the fuse back out of the box? Try continuity from the DEAD side of the fuse to the headlamp. i.e. pull the fuse, see which side the 12v comes in and measure from the OTHER side to the headlamp. If the connector underneath has come adrift slightly then in could be the feed to the headlamp thats not making. eddie

I lost all side lights (front and rear) number plate lights and dipped beam - all down to a burnt/poor connection on the back of the light switch. It's dead easy to get out, take the switch front off using a small screw driver from below to release the clip (as bulb change), prise the black surround out carefully and the switch will then release towards you from its clips. 5 mins to check.
