Cruise Control

Hi everybody,
just bought myself a '97 Scorpio Ultima Estate for a really good price. Problem is that it's got a few little problems that need sorting, sunroof seal needs replacing, rear wash piping needs repalcing and cruise control don't work. First 2 problems can be sorted without much trouble but I'm really stuck on the cruise control, so I would really appreciate some help. I have read through al the previous post regarding this but to no avail, it looks like either the motors dead or it's not getting the correct signals to work. Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this system or know what voltages are expected at each of the pins on the motor.

Have a check of the motor and make sure its not seized and that the relay is place
What engine have you got in it it does make a slight diference?

Woody, Can you indicate the fault more precisely so the lads can help with a diagnosis. ie Do you get any lights up when you activate, is the cable connected to the throttle linkage,this can easily become detached, and any other pointers which may help the 'experts' which I am not !. HTH Simmo

It's a 2.3 16V, I'll certainly check out the link Snoopy, thanks. Sorry should have thought about posting the symptoms in the first place. When I select cruise the dash light does come on but on lifting off it doesn't engage, I've checked the cable as per previous posts and it appears to be ok and is attached securely to the throttle linkage. I believe the cruise relay is under the drivers side dash, is this correct? Does anybody know if this relay is the same as any other on the car so that I can try swapping them and seeing if the problem 'moves'.

Woody, If Snoopys on the case you're in good hands!. As for the relay I think you'll find that the location can vary on different builds. There is a large unit just below the motor, on the FOS inner wing on mine, but I'm sure one of the guys will know more. Simmo

Right you have to actually select the speed by pressing the white dot to switch the CC on then use either the "=" sign or the "+" sign to engage the cc, after a few seconds the cc should engage. The relay is in the glove box, aux fuse box . Well worth taking the top of the motor of and checking that all is free to move in there. Memebers have reported sticking motors, also keep pressing the swiches, then can get dirty contcts, and if the last person didn't use it and was a smoker it may well be dirt on the contacts.
have read of this as well may give you some ideas
THIS
THe BIG green relay near to the CC motor is NOT connected to it .... it is the cooling fan relay do not mess with it.

Thanks for the info Snoopy, I'm pretty sure that I'm using the correct button sequence to engage the cc, but no harm in trying again. As you say it may be dirty contacts but would the dash light come on if the cc wasn't engaging? I will have a look at the motor to see if it's siezed as soon as I get a chance, is there a way I can actuate the motor when the car's not moving? Once again thanks for the help.

the reley for the cc is NOT in the panel above the glove box. for some reason it's connected to the horn! can't remember who spotted this! i think it's relay 33, bur i'm not sure. look at the wiring diagrams for the horn! 
re the motor. when you take it apart, the gearing should move smoothly. on mine, the motor had siezed. new motor fixed it.

have the same problem on my scorpio.
Have a look at the stop light bulbs.
Both have a burn out - after replace them all was fine.

Thanks for all the help lads, got it sorted. Snoopy was right, the motor had siezed! Managed to get a replacement from a ford breakers and after a quick cable swap it's now fitted and working perfectly!!
