Hello to all, i come to you with another kind of problem, after reading all about air con system, i need your knowledge. Is it normal to get air from outside only when you switch on the blower ? otherwise regardless of speed ther's no air comming in the car, is it like somehow the reciculation button is pressed like default when turning the blower off. Also from time to time AC comes on without pressing it.

hi there

sounds like the reciculation vacuum is sticking a bit.
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acevaphousinglabelled.gif
or the pollen filters are blocked. these should be changed every 6-12 months.

the a/c comes on from start up (default) and when the dial is set to windscreen demist.

this solves it, i remember seting the air flux to windscreen a few times.

as for the " reciculation vacuum is sticking a bit" could you, please, be a bit more precise, is it the vacuum motor assembly, with it's arm Huh

Has the VAC pipe come off or have a hole/split in it??
Get someone to operate the recirc. while you watch the actuator.

There 's a pipe with a vacuum  supply from the engine  which  connects to the  vacuum resevoir, from there  another pipe   connects  to the  vacuum motor.   The vacuum motor  could be  broken or  the   air rec.   on/off    solenoid  ( which is activated from  the dash  button )  in the vacuum resevoir  could be  siezed up.

Go to the CC   section on the site   it's very  helpful.

i'm amazed what mess i found,  most of the cables that go to the solenoid, also the small black box near it, where burnt, no plastic on them, only the wires and all of them where joined togheter in a BIG short circuit, the vaccum motor was full of dirt, and rust, but now it's clean, and doesn't lose air, also i have found a kind of short circuit connector and lots of "intristing things", also i'ved cleaned the small valve from the solenoid.

HOW CAN i ADD some photos ??
so i can show you. What worries me now is, that the AC button doesn't seem to do something, last time i used AC it worked but didn't start from the begining, i wander is there some relays that control the compressor ? the's no burnt fuse, checked em all. [img][/img]

hi there

use http://www.anyboard.net/autos/cars/scorpio/index.html

post your photo's there and then just post a link here.

here's the wiring...http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra_el.html

and all the stuff on the a/c....http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acindex.htm

can you see BOTH engine fans running in slow mode with the a/c button lit? what about the compressor clutch? you should see it move and engage the drive belt (with engine running...carefull!)

First the wires

simply no insulation on them.

after repairing them, some cleaning, cuting, and insulation

now comes the tricky part, the near to battery connector enters in this thing:

it's a tree pin triangular shape connector, with only two pins. Also had been burnt by something.

After this the vacuum resorvoir and solenoid whered cleaned:

The vacuum motor was full of dirt, and didn't close all the way:

but after some cleaning it was like "brand-old-new"
This i didn't know what it does so i let it there

Also i'ved cleaned the drain pipes, the valves at each end, checked the polen filters, also tried air recirculation button and it really moves the vacuum motor, also tried to reset the ATC and recalibrate it. The auto function really works depending on the selected temperature. It seems ok for now, just to get out of town to see if fresh air enters without turning in the blower fan. And by cleaning the pipes maybe it wont spit out moisture like it did.

I haven't notice the engine fans going on when i turn the AC up, also after keep pushing on and off, to fell the vibration (and sound) of the AC compressor kicking in (wich he didn't)....i've wanted to see if the compressor heated, and it was kind of "burning". Also i've never saw the engine fans come on, neither in city nor after long trips (maybe i drive to fast). The temperature on water never went higher than half, and at high speed staies down. I don't think it's the driv belt of the compressor because it worked a few weeks perfectly, and i haven't used it from then.

So this is my aircon story, any sugestions are highly appreciated. When i'll have some more free time i'll check the fuses one more time, as for the relays, i'll get em out if it's necesarly, also i will look at the engine fans if they come on together with the AC.
