The key fob??

Hello people,

im new here as you can see, i drive a 16v 2.0i scorpio ultima in graphite black and my old man drives a 24v 2.9i scorpio executive cossie in met pearl grey.

The question i need answering is, when i purchased my scorp it came with a key fob that worked occasionally, i opened it up to find only 1 battery so i replaced that and added a second battery as instructed in the handbook. It worked better for a little while but was still frustrating as it was not consitant as it should of been. The last time i replaced the batteries i went to reprogram the remote as it should be done but nothing, and ever since it has not worked, its had 2 sets of brand new batteries in it and has been reprogramed many times since but dont get that bleep to say its set.

Has anybody experienced their remote to pack up or is their anybody that can offer me any advice?

Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,

welcome to the site.

you'll probably find your remote is suffering from worn key pad syndrome just like many of our remotes. Its not that the remotes don’t work, its the rubber keys that make contact with the circuit board that wear out. Sometimes all the remote needs is a clean inside but more often this does not restore it to PERFECT working order. People have also tried metal paint on the underside of the buttons and even tin foil but my experience of these two methods hasn’t been great.

Here in the states, remotes with the same keypad layout are plentiful, but finding someone who will just sell you the rubber keypad on its own is virtually impossible. sadly the remotes here are not the same frequency as the scorp's.

HTH

Try the cleaning method first.

The other thing to check is position of the small 'tag' that stands up from the battery holder. This is the positive contact with the circuit board and if it is not touching there is no circuit. If you look at the circuit board you will see the large circle where the battery itself makes contact and another smaller area to the right. Try adjusting the 'tag' and see if that solves the problem. It can be a bit of 'trial and error' and be careful not to break the 'tag'. HTH

have you also tried thoroughly cleaning the remote ?,using something like surgical spirit, when you took it apart,it probably needed it,make sure you clean ALL the contact area's,and simmo's advice about a good conection with "the tag" is correct......
let us know how you get on.....

Also, Try using the rubber on the end of a pencil to clean the said contacts, this helped quite a bit with mine, but still, perfection not reached! Undecided

Smiley
I got a brand new key fob from Ebay. £62 recorded delivery.
Programmed it and every thing works great.
Music_Master. Yes is the answer to your `Q`
When you programme one remote then you do the other at the same time.

when it chimes press the UNLOCK button on one remote and if you want to programme another one press the UNLOCK button on that one as well.. should all be done OK.
