Reversing Lights not working

The reversing lights on my 2.3 auto aren't working. I can get them to come on if I put it in reverse and pull back slightly on the gear selector so i imagine the problem is with the switch on the gearbox. I haven't got underneath yet so I don't know quite what's involved. Can anyone give me some advice as to where and what to look for? Thanks.

Sounds like the PRNGLE switch to me. Remove the wooden surround around the gear selector and check connector. It may just be dirt or a loose connection. Check it is also propperly mounted to the selector lever. A bad PRNGLE switch would normally cause the door ajar tone to be heard. HTH Danny_R

In answer to Craig the passenger mirror has never dipped since I've had the car. I've always assumed that it just wasn't fitted or had stopped working before I bought it. In answer to Danny, I don't get any door ajar tones or anything like that. Sounds like this switch is easy to check though, I'll have a look at the weekend.
