Hi all
Long time since I have been on this site. Good to be back.
(Pity it is with a problem)!!
Just had my air con re gassed, the problem I now have is that the air con is always on!!!! Switch the switch off and the compressor is still working and hence the air con? The compressor is now also making a loud noise (like whistling) which increases with engine speed.
The air con guy I went to seems to think there is a permanent feed going to the compressor and/or the switch on the dash is u/s.
Any body any ideas.
PS This car used to be James' if he could perhaps throw some light on the prob.

Many thanks

Could be the expansion valve!? I had similar problem where the pressure built up until the compressor stopped!

If you pull the plug off the drier upder the cover by the headlight does it switch off then?
Also what position is the airflow control.....?? If its in screen mode (All the way clockwise) then the A/C is ALWAYS ON even though the light is NOT.

There s a load of detail on the main site with regards A/C But I am sure others will know more.

Hi all
sorry for delay.
Well took it into Ford who replaced the pressure switch.Guess what?Still not working and they can not fix it because they do not have the tools to work out the codes!!!!!!!
This car is only 8 YEARS old!!!!
They said the codes were either 50 or 57.
Will do a c/c/ reset tonight and try and find out the real codes and hopefully get some info from here.
Thanks to everyone online.

hi there

you don't need to worry about code 57 just now. all that's tell you is the hbc is/has overheated (normally) at some point. we'll go back to that later.

how long did you leave the engine running after switching off the a/c? what about starting the engine. if you switch off the a/c right away, would it run then? make sure the dial is not at the w/screen.

could be a pressure problem. see craigs posting http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1120764379

how fast are the fans running? slow or fast mode. or not at all!
