total strip & re build on both fuse boxes, all good, no signs of water or corrosion, all relays dry, not blowing any fuses. strange that panel lights stay on even when light switch is disconnected, if I find time today I will remove the dash to see if lights are getting a feed from there, and no there is no tow bar fitted either. very puzling

all sorted, scorpio-man mentioned ash tray, well its never been used, still clean & shiney inside, just about to remove dash when I noticed that the lights went off when the ash tray was opened, the light feed wire to the fag lighter was detatched and when pushed in was coming into contact with the live feed to the lighter, simple fix, managed to solder terminal back on bulb holder & put araldite over it, belt & braces, could have been a costly fix with all the time ive spent on it allready.
